Infrastructure

Krishan and Vicky Joshi Research Center:

The glass and steel four story $11 million structure features 50,000 square feet of high-tech flexible lab spaces, several equipped conference rooms with expansive glass windows that offer spectacular views of the Wright State campus, and high-speed cabling with Internet 2 capability, furthering partnerships with WPAFB, local industry, and national as well as international partners.

The Kno.e.sis Center and Eminent Scholar's activities are housed on the third floor. They are the focal point for statewide research in advanced data management, visualization, bioinformatics, sensor technologies, and more. Professor Sheth and Kno.e.sis collaborate closely with daytaOhio on the second floor of the Joshi Research Center. Nine labs directed by Kno.e.sis' seven faculty members are hosed primarily on the third floor, and one lab is on the fourth floor of the Joshi Research Center. The center space also consists of offices for faculty, research scientists/post docs, and visitors.

Computing:

All labs have state of the art computing. Each research has either a workstation (typically dual quad processors, 4GB, .5/1 TB disk) or a laptop (and in many cases both). Some of the labs have additional servers; bioinformatics lab has a 16 node cluster.

Center has three racks of servers in a server room that host the following:

  • A number of general purpose servers (Linux and Windows), that also host project/center Web sites
  • A 19 node Cloud Computing Collaboratory (head node has 256GB main memory)
  • A cluster of computers for distributed computing
  • Additionally, a number of projects requiring high performance computing use Ohio Supercomputer Center, and large Oracle installation for the use
by Kno.e.sis projects is hosted by the University's central computing facility.

Kno.e.sis is in the process of expanding to the newly announced Center of Excellence on Knowledge-enabled Human Centered Computing (Kno.e.sis),
which has 15 faculty members from four colleges (including the seven Kno.e.sis center faculty members) and 45+ researchers. Kno.e.sis occupies a majority of the space in the Joshi Research Center.

    daytaOhio

daytaOhio is a Wright Center of Innovation for Advanced Data Management and Analysis funded by the Ohio Third Frontier Initiative that is focused on market-driven research, development, and commercialization of information-technology-enabled capabilities and solutions. It offers world class visualization facility for projects involving 3D and immersive visualization or a very large power wall.
