  • Cloud Computing

    The landscape of computing clouds in changing rapidly and increasingly becoming hard to make sense. Middleware that abstracts the differences between the clouds is going to be a major focus in research for the next few years. Also Cloud agnostic application development is also becoming an important consideration

  • Human Computation

    Using humans to solve hard AI problems is an interesting technique and quickly becoming a hot bed of research. Finding ways to improve the existing algorithms, specially thinking in terms of social networks

  • Situational Web applications

    Situational Web applications or "mashups" is another hot research area. Aspects from creating such applications to verifying their accuracy are all upto to be explored

  • Middleware for service discovery

    Service discovery is an important problem, specially given the context of dynamism. Efficient registries with semantically enhanced descriptions and improved search mechanisms are the key to efficient service discovery

  • Middleware for device independent computing

    Device independent computing has become a hot research area with the booming of handheld computers. Middleware that supports such devices need to adjust to a number of factors starting from the features of the communication channel spanning to the available computing power at the device.

  • Semantic Web Services

    Adding semantics to Web services is an interesting research area and plays a significant part in the vision for the next generation of Web, the Semantic Web.
