The KEGG (Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes) glycan database can be accessed through the link http://glycan.genome.ad.jp/.
The main page offers several search options:

    • by Entry: unique KEGG ID, consisting of a letter, e.g. 'g' for glycan and a number
    • by Name: the name or its abbreviation of the glycan or part of the name can be entered here, e.g. GlcNAc
    • by Composition: can search by glycan structure, using a special notation convention. Produced DB errors
    • by Class: search for all glycans belonging to a certain class, e.g. 'N-Glycan", "O-Glycan' or 'Glycoprotein'
    • by Binding: finds Glycans that have a binding with the entered enzyme, protein, etc
    • by Comment: full text search on comment field
    • by Pathway: display all glycans involved in a certain pathway, e.g. 'map00510'
    • by Structure: this link will open a java applet that allows the user to graphically design a glycan structure. The database query will look for glycans that have a similar structure. The degree of similarity can be chosen. Choosing exact match will naturally return fewer results than an approximate match.
